Since 1947 our school, Gobindakati Shiksha Niketan, has been playing a significant role in encouraging and spreading education in the remotest part of Sunderban area in Hingalganj P.S. West Bengal, India and consequently enabling the development of the human resources in this geographically and socially isolated and economically undeveloped area. Slowly but gradually the school has become the pivot through which the area is going to enter into the mainstream of national life.
Our school is situated in such an area where from stone-throw distance there runs the deep forest of the Sunderban. Till today the people have to fight against poisonous snake and the Royal Bengal Tiger.
The so-called intellectuals of our country feel rather proud of Royal Bengal Tiger than the inhabitants of the area. To them the life of Royal Bengal Tiger is more honorable and valuable than that of the local people. Even after 50 years of independence the people of the area have to reach 30 K.M. distance at Hasnabad within seven to eight hours in the days of super-sonic. We know the 60% of the population are living below the poverty line are illiterate. 100% of the land is still unirrigated which reminds primitive days of human being.
It is an amazing compound of contradictions to think that before 50 years on the same place in such uncongenial atmosphere some migrated people of erstwhile East Bengal laid foundation stone of Gobindakati Shiksha Niketan with sincere and active co-operation of local dedicated persons to light up the lamp of learning even living on deplorable condition of life. All the founder teachers and patrons had to fight relentless battle through their lives to clear the horizon of education of dark-clouds in Sunderban area. Through establishing the school they have made ceaseless and relentless efforts for the spread of education of this area. Through their acts they tried to motivate the public mind to the extent that it is education and education only which makes man self-reliant and self-conscious.
Many students stood in life through getting education from this school and entered into the main stream of national life. So many schools of this area are the good product of Gobindakati Shiksha Niketan. Many dark houses are being lighted through education
So the credit goes down to our dedicated teachers namely:-
1. Late Hazarilal Mandal.
2. Late Panchanan Mandal.
3. Late Aswini Kumar Gayen.
4. Late Satish Chandra Mandal.
5. Late Dhirendranath Mandal.
6. Late Ramchandra Mandal.
7. Late Subodh Kumar Biswas.
We owe to them.
So we think that we should be grateful to the sand of the land of the area, to each and every man particularly to the founder teacher and patrons of the school. We think that every social being must have some minimum social commitment. Our commitment is to pay homage to these dedicated teachers. To follow the ideals and acts of the founder teachers is the wisest and best method to pay homage and tribute to them. Their ideas were to spread of education and participation other social activities.
So it should be our commitment and bounden duty to take endeavor to spread education and to take part in kind of social activity with whatever limited through and resource we have. On the eve of Goldren Jubilee foundation of Gobindakati Shiksha Niketan We, the Progressive Association of Ex.-students of the said school established “ Gobindakati Educational & Social Welfare Trust” in 22nd December, 1997 bearing registration no. 5232 under The Indian Trust Act, 1882, in the hope that this institution would offer its service for the cause of motivation and spreading of both formal and non-formal education and eradication of illiteracy and to some extent functional literacy and social welfare activities in Sunderban area irrespective of caste, creed, religion and politics.
